in the area after meeting several local artists. “I met all the artists at a Heart Card Trading in Alexandria,” explained Poliquin. “Wemet at a nice little lunch Cafe on Saturdays.” Poliquin plans to keep exhibiting her work, and would like to obtain her own stu- dio sometime in the near future. “I want to display my work at some shows at Christ- mas,” she said. “"ere are some in Ottawa, Deux-Montagnes and Vankleek Hill. But it is more than booking the events. "en I have to produce thematerial for each show.” Local artist Dale Garvin shared the dis- play space with Poliquin, at the L’Orignal Prison, over the weekend. «I paint in acrylic, oil and watercolor,” Garvin explained. “I like photographing nature scenes, especially in the fall, and paint them on canvas with bright colors.» Garvin moved from Saskatchewan to Montreal in 1967, keeping a love of the endless landscape and big skies with him. His artwork re!ects the scenery of his past, with his current home of L’Orignal. “I paint to please myself,” said Garvin. “And hope my paintings please others.” ARTour brings together artists of all levels, from the greenhorn to the veteran."is year’s ARTour had 18 artists of all calibres showing work throughout Prescott Russell."e event gives exposure to local artists, and allows visitors to meet them in their own creative environment. Approximately 1,300 people visited art studios throughout the region during the ARTour weekend, with many taking home a painting, sculpture, or piece of jewelry.
"ere were several artists throughout Pres- cott Russell during last week’s ARTour, including France Poliquin from L’Orignal who showed her artwork at the L’Orignal Prison September 26 and 27. Poliquin works with several types of tex- tiles in themost amazing way. Poliquin uses Shibori immersion technique, bees wax, dip dyeing, Jacquard cotton, beads, lace, knit, drawings, and much more. Originally from North Ontario, Poliquin has lived in the L’Orignal area since 2001. “I have been doing this since I was two years old,” said Poliquin. “I was hyper, somymom gave me crochet hooks in hopes of keeping me busy. Pensions RTO/ERO believes it is imper- ative that our political leaders address the absence of pension plans for 75% of private sec- tor workers who constitute the majority of the workforce. !e matter of assisting Canadians to plan for their retirement, and thus to be more self-reliant in their senior years, is as an opportunity to raise the quality of life of Canadians.
RTO/ERO’s Recommendations q !e Prime Minister convene a meeting of Premiers and Provincial FinanceMinisters to work out a time frame for a phased-in universal health care program, and that such a program include a coop- erative Federal-Provincial Pharmacare Program. w !attheFederalGovernment undertake an expansion of the CPP in conjunction with the Provinces and Territories to ensure that Canadians can continue to maintain a rea- sonable standard of living in their retirement years.
Healthcare RTO/ERO is seeking from the Federal Government and the provinces a commit- ment to a phased-in, managed approach to universal healthcare that combines preven- tion and remediation. !is would include a campaign to encourage all Canadians to adopt healthier lifestyles, as well as a Pharmacare program that leaves the provinces responsible for the management of healthcare through an integrated, funded agreement between the provinces and the Federal Government.
A silent auction and concert were held at Knox Presbyterian church inVankleekHill, September 26. EH Gospel Sounds played to a full house charming the audience with both old and new gospel music. EHGospel Sounds recently launched their "rst CD entitled #e Tie that Binds. Funds from the auction and concert will go toward re-pointing the stonework on the church.
