CHANHASSEN 4TH OF JULY SPECTACULAR | 2024 2

Hello Chanhassen!

Excitement is in the air with the 4th of July Celebration right around the corner. This special event brings our community together over the course of three days, during which we share in fun, food, activities, and laughter. While some events might look a little different this year due to the construction downtown, our city staff has worked diligently to ensure great memories will still be made. The Chanhassen community, its residents, businesses, and important partnerships make our city truly unique and make this celebration special to all of us. Thank you to everyone who makes this event happen: Chanhassen city staff, Chanhassen Fire Department and Carver County Sheriff’s Office, the Rotary Club of Chanhassen, and all participating businesses. Teamwork makes the dream work! I hope that everyone has a wonderful 4th of July! Stay safe, have fun, and may God Bless America!

ELISE RYAN MAYOR CITY OF CHANHASSEN

You may be surprised to know that the 4th of July Parade is organized by volunteers from Chanhassen, as is the Taste of Chanhassen, the Classic Car Show, the T-6 Thunderbird parade flyover, and, of course, the Beer Garden. Months of planning and thousands of volunteer hours are given by Chanhassen Rotarians and friends to help bring our city’s celebration to life. David Neubauer, Rotary president, says “volunteering in our community brings us together as we celebrate Chanhassen, the nation’s historical founding, and our independence. It’s our most important and biggest event that raises money to cover the costs of the parade as well as funding our support for many of our local non-profits and charities.”

Ruth Lunde, this year’s volunteer parade chairperson, says, “The parade’s theme is ‘There’s Magic in the Air,’ and more than 14,000 parade goers will see the magic of Rotary as an expected 80 plus entrants bring bands, floats, animals, royalty, clowns, and probably lots of candy. The parade will be led by our local Legion’s honor guard and the Rotary’s Distinguished Service Award recipient, exemplifying the best in volunteering. The Rotary humbly thinks it’s one of the best hometown parades in the State.” And none of this would be possible without the terrific support of Chanhassen City’s staff and Sheriff’s Deputies. Their work on a holiday makes it fun and safe for all. DAVID NEUBAUER PRESIDENT ROTARY CLUB OF CHANHASSEN RUTH LUNDE 4 TH OF JULY EVENT CHAIR ROTARY CLUB OF CHANHASSEN

Enjoy the celebration and consider becoming a volunteer for the Rotary or any of the amazing local non- profits. Volunteering makes our community live up to its rating as the ‘#1 Best City to Live in America’.

I registered a float for the parade. Where do I get information on staging, lineup, and parade rules? Be on the lookout for an email from events@chanhassenrotary.org. How can I access downtown businesses? Access to all downtown businesses will be available before, during, and after the parade. » Businesses North of West 78th Street Von Hanson’s, Moe’s Char House, Domino’s Parking lot entrances off Laredo Drive and Great Plains Boulevard » Businesses South of West 78th Street Aldi, Venue Apartments, Brindisi’s Pub, 600 Market Street Parking lot entrance off Market Boulevard » West Village Center Lunds & Byerlys Parking lot entrances off West 78th Street » Market Square Cub Foods, Merlin’s Ace Hardware Parking lot entrances off Market Boulevard How can I promote safety during the parade? » Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. » Plan ahead and be aware of the weather. » Be patient when arriving and exiting downtown before and after the parade. Drive slowly and watch for pedestrians. » Stay on the curb during the parade (children especially!). » Never run towards or in front of a parade float, even when stopped. » Exit the parade area quickly and stick to the sidewalks when able.

Why is there a new route? Portions of the former parade route and float staging area, including Chan View Drive, Iroquois Circle, West 76th Street, and Huron Avenue, will be under construction in July 2024 as part of the Pavement Rehabilitation Project. The new route will address this immediate challenge, with the additional goal of increasing public safety and providing a better viewing experience with fewer gaps between floats. Where can I park to view the parade? Parking is available throughout downtown Chanhassen. Parking will not be available on Santa Vera Drive between Powers and Kerber Boulevard, on Kerber Boulevard south of Saddlebrook Curve, or along the parade route. Exit times from the parking lots north of Market Street will be delayed, as Market Street will be closed to the public from 1:30-5:00 p.m. for end-of-parade float staging. Where can I drop off & pick up my parade participant? DROP OFF: Prior to 1:30 p.m., participants can be dropped off at the corner of Kerber Boulevard and Santa Vera Drive on the west (southbound) side of Kerber Boulevard. After 1:30 p.m., participants can be dropped off at the corner of Kerber Boulevard and Saddlebrook Curve or on Santa Vera Drive, east of Kerber Boulevard. PICK UP: Please coordinate pickup with your participant or their group. The parade will end at the intersection of Great Plains Boulevard and Market Street, and floats will empty onto Market Street at the conclusion of the parade.
