MEET OUR EPIC TEAM

Our team rounds out with Heather who comes in twice a week to do bookwork and manage taxes. She keeps everything running smoothly with our financials and always has an excellent grasp on the numbers. We’re a crew that can overcome the toughest of obstacles. Every day has its challenges, but our team is incredible — Esther especially. She can take care of anything and has been a rock for me as we continue to build this business. This month we are expanding our mailing list, so if you receive a newsletter, that means at some point you may have made a purchase here, and we’d like to thank you for that. For all our new customers in the last quarter, I wanted to introduce you to our team. We all want to say thank you to our new and current clients. None of this would be possible without the good people we have the pleasure to serve. Our team sincerely appreciates your past business and looks forward to providing you the highest standard of excellence for all your metal fabrication needs for years to come.

can’t be there, my wife Esther steps up to the plate. Not only do I consider myself thankful to work side by side with my wife and business partner, but I also consider it an absolute blessing that she has been willing and able to handle administrative and daily challenges that come with running a business. Monroe is our shop manager and handles everything that goes on with regard to production. He’s also our lead fabricator, which gives him direct oversight over a lot of the custom pieces that go out. He understands trim production and is happy to help anyone who needs something custom bent. Ben is a hybrid because he’s the person we have on staff who is both in the office and on the fabrication floor. When he’s not on the phone or working administration, he’s working on order production and roll-forming metal, making the highest quality pieces you’ll see out there. John is our go-to guy for all maintenance tasks and deliveries. He’s the guy you will see arriving with your load of steel and trims. When he’s not bouncing around between those duties, he also helps with roll-forming on our standing- seam side of production.

No one is more important than the people you share your life with or work around each day, which is why I feel blessed to have such an impressive team here at Central Michigan Roofing. From the office to the shop, everyone tries their best. Coming in every work day with great attitudes and positive spirits is what makes a place function at top capacity. Of course, this does not come easy some days with the hustle and bustle of orders coming in, orders going out, phone calls, order production, quality control, and deliveries. But through perseverance, dedication, and discipline, we do it! With the Fourth of July coming up, that means we’re halfway through the year. Can you believe that? We’re rolling full speed ahead into our busy season, and we couldn’t be more excited, thanks to the fine people who make up our squad. Of course, telling you how great our team is without showing who they are isn’t going to do them justice. So I wanted to walk you through the shop and introduce the individuals who make our wheels spin every day. There are three of us who work in the office. We man the phones and make sure the whole back end of the business is taken care of. Usually, I’m running point on all conversations that come through the shop, but if I

How does your business keep up productive momentum when employees jet off for a week or two? Every summer, this is a question that businesses all over the country try to answer. It’s also a question that impacts businesses differently depending on staff size and organization. Some businesses have enough folks on hand at any given time that the absence of a single person isn’t a big deal. But during the summer, the dynamic can change when more employees decide to take time off, especially one after another. When employees take time off, things are more likely to slip through the cracks, and productivity can take a hit. However, having well-defined vacation policies in place can prevent issues from developing in the first place. First, be clear about the time-off policy. If you have one department of six people, a reasonable expectation is that only two people from that department may be out at a time. The policy of “first come, first served,” is one of the best ways to approach this situation. It’s fair, and it encourages people to get time-off requests in early, leaving your team more time to plan for the absence. When Employees Take a Summer Vacation KEEP PRODUCTIVE MOMENTUM

Second, implement time- off request deadlines.

When you know a lot of people are going to want to take a few weeks off during the summer, ask that they put in their requests as soon as possible. It allows everyone time to plan so work is delegated accordingly. On top of that, remind your team to get the requests in before booking any travel arrangements. That way, no one has to play the bad guy when a time-off request gets denied and a hotel booking hangs in the balance. Third, encourage taking vacation. Work-life balance is critical when you want a productive team. Sometimes you have to reiterate that vacations are important, as numerous studies have confirmed. Too often, employees don’t plan vacations because they don’t want to compromise their job in any way, or they feel guilty about leaving. But when people don’t take time off, that’s when productivity takes the biggest hit. The longer people work without taking time for themselves, the more likely they are to experience burnout.

THE PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE OF WORK-LIFE BALANCE Where Does Your Life Lean?

Too Much Work, Not Enough Life

Societal progression is relative. The idea that our culture is getting closer to a utopian standard is very much open to interpretation. Sometimes it can seem that the rapid rate at which the world is changing improves the quality of life. In other instances, life carries more burdens than ever before. The ever-present yin and yang battle can make the human experience more like a game of tug of war than a search for fulfillment. One area where this is evident is in the balance between work and life. While work-life balance is a hot topic in many different fields, one of the areas that often gets misconstrued is that the concept only pertains to too much work and not enough life. But human potential falls by the wayside every day because of an excess of personal endeavors and not enough professional achievements. Who can you think of in your life who has a seemingly endless potential to accomplish greatness, but has fallen short? One of the common culprits of this lifestyle is an emphasis on the fun moments in life, without a willingness to sacrifice and develop resilience. Too Much Life, Not Enough Work

There’s nothing better than a hard days’ work. Satisfaction, accomplishment, and pride all abound when advancing in your career path. But the further life’s pendulum swings toward too much work, the more personal sacrifices have to be made. Family is often removed as a priority. Personal relationships with friends can suffer. One of the most challenging sacrifices of a life focused on work is that you lose time for improvisation and adventure. As counterintuitive as it may seem, the more you work, the less productive you become at your job — a concept known as the productivity paradox. There is only a finite amount of time in the day and in our lives. The more we plug into work, the less life we live, and vice versa. For each person, the balance of work and life is going to show a different ratio, but if we all take a look inside ourselves, we know that one of these areas is winning in our lives more than the other. The question is, which one is it for you?

Prepare Camp Meals With a Dutch Oven

CHARCOAL AND DUTCH OVENS The Per fect Camp-Cooking Pair

Camping doesn’t have to mean settling for prepackaged snacks, dehydrated meals, and boring hot dogs. In fact, cooking during your camping trip can be fun, easy, and incredibly tasty. One of the simplest ways to prepare camp meals is with a Dutch oven and charcoal. Dutch oven meals require very little work and dirty few dishes. Best of all, you can add an endless variety of food to your camp menu! The briquettes around the Dutch oven provide long-lasting and consistent heat distribution. The number of briquettes you use depends on the size of your Dutch oven and what you’re cooking. However, you can use the following chart as a rule of thumb to determine how many briquettes you need for certain temperatures and oven sizes. Cooking with a Dutch oven is as simple as combining your ingredients, heating your briquettes, and placing them beneath and on top of your oven. Each briquette adds 10–20 degrees of heat.

Cooking while camping should be an enjoyable experience. Pack a Dutch oven and charcoal briquettes the next time you’re out in the wilderness to add a fun and rustic element to your meals.

For breakfast, prepare a hash with bacon, eggs, onions, potatoes, cheese, salt, and pepper. For lunch, try cooking
