course in the authenticity and au thority of Scripture. There are three approaches to the Bible. F irst of all, the Biblical view or orthodox view. This is the historic traditional stand upon which all of our Biola Schools are founded. The Bible is the Word of God. Liberals will change one word and make all the difference in the word by saying that the Bible contains the word of God. This im plies that it contains a lot of other things, too, such as myths and leg ends. There is a third group which is perhaps even more insidious than the second. They say that the Bible becomes the Word of God. As one reads it, he is supposed to be trans formed in some mysterious manner, and becomes as God, so that the Bible then is God’s Word to him. These latter two views are absolutely fal lacious and without foundation. You can be thankful, the longest day of your life, that your parents took
God. The believer, however, already has been judged by Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary’s cross. I Corinthians 3 speaks of the bema judgment of Christ which is only upon our works wherein rewards are given or with held. It does not affect our eternal salvation (II Cor. 5 :10 ). The believ er does not come into condemnation, but is passed from death to life (John 5:24, Romans 8 :11 ). All our sins were forgiven, but works after salvation are judged as to whether they are done to the glory of God. Salvation is never considered as a reward but rather God’s free gift. Q . Oakland, Calif. — “Why does one have to join a church in order to be a Christian?” A. The answer simply is that one does not have to join a church to be saved. One becomes a Christian by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. We do believe that Christians should belong to a good evangelical church for purposes of identification and fellowship. Q. Oregon (town withheld due to nature of question). — “I was reared in a certain evangelical church, but when we were married, my husband didn’t want to go, so we joined one which is modernistic. I know now that this was the wrong thing to do. I ’m so concerned because this church does not seem to know the full blessings o f Jesu s Christ. Our minister says that he doubts the virgin birth. Now in our Sunday school class our teacher made this statement, ‘God’s Word is the Bible, but the Bible is not God’s Word.’ He explains it that through interpretation and man’s errors these things have come in. To me, however, i f you doubt part o f the Scripture, you won’t know what is right or what is wrong. Can you help me clear up this question?” A.
