Evolution Disproved B y R ev . W il lia m A. W il l ia m s , D.D. Ex-President of Franklin College, Ohio Author of “Early American Families” Reviewed by Rev. H. W. Kellogg The title of this book is an ambitious one, “Evolution Disproved.” Can it be done? It is one thing to throw doubt j upon a theory, another thing to ridicule a theory, and an entirely different thing to disprove a theory. Then there is proof or disproof which amounts to moral cer tainty, and there is mathematical proof. The author heads his first chapter, “The Evolution of Man Mathematically Dis proved.” Let the reader watch his argu ment and see if his demonstration is com plete. First of all, Dr. Williams says truly that every proved theory of science is to be accepted, and that we should examine any new hypothesis with open minds; but ■ that if a theory is evidently or probably untrue, or pernicious or at all harmful, it is to be rejected and condemned. “Any scientific theory or hypothesis must be proved possible, then probable, then certain. To be a possible theory, it must be reconcilable with many facts; to be a probable theory, it must be recon cilable with many more; to. be a certain , and proven theory it must be reconcilable with a ll ,the facts. Whenever it is irrec-; oncilable with any fact, it should be re- : jected, as it cannot be a true theory. “The present population of the globe i proves that mankind must have descended from one pair not earlier than the time ; of Noah. “The population of the world, based ; upon the Berlin census reports of 1922,; was found to be 1,804,187,000. The human race must double itself 30.75 times to : make this number. At the beginning’ of the first period of doubling, there would ; be just two human beings ; the second, 4; the third, 8; the fourth, 16; the tenth, 1,024; the twentieth, 1,048,576; the, thir tieth, 1,073,741,824; and the thirty-first, 2,147,483,648.” Therefore it is evident that to have the ; present population of the globe, the n e t; population must be doubled more than : thirty times and less than thirty-one times, j By logarithms, we find it to be 30.75 times. ; According to the chronology of Hales, ; based on the Septuagint text, 5,077 years ; have, elapsed since the Flood, and 5,177 ! years since the ancestors of mankind ! numbered only two, Noah and his wife., By dividing 5,177 by 30.75, we find it re- 1 quires an average of 168.3 years for the; human race to double its numbers in ; order to make the present population. By the same method of computation, it ; is found that the descendants b f !Jacob : have doubled their numbers every 161,252 I years—a marvelous agreement. The evolutionists ciaim that the human ! race is 2,000,000 years old. It is prob- j able that with modern restraints on mar- j riage absent, the race would multiply at j least as rapidly as did the descendants

FOR INDIVIDUALS—FOR CLASSES The ideal course for those who cannot attend a class and who wish to study the Bible privately. Also an excellent outline for a year’s work for class study.

THE Scofield Reference Bible offered is a special edition which contains a Cyclope dic Bible Dictionary or Concordance of 300double-column pages of alphabetically arranged facts about the Bible. Such aids are usually printed only in the best teach ers’Bibles. This is in addition to the usual “helps on the pages where needed”which have made the Scofield Reference Bible famous. No other one-volume Bible pub lished today contains such valuable refer ence materials. Printedwith largetype and durably bound in extra quality cloth. A YEAR’S BIBLE COURSE THIS is a course of study comprising 52 lessons, all based on the helps in the Sco field Reference Bible. The principal Bible books and the great Bible truths are fully covered. Hundreds ofquestions areinclud- ed. Many illustrative diagrams accompany the text. A complete and practical course that will provide a working knowledge of the Bible. “Willproduce thoroughgoing Biblestudents.” — Christian Endeavor World. “Opens the Scriptures to students in rich fashion .”— Sunday School Times. Oxford University Press 114 Fifth Avenue, New York City of Jacob; but generously allowing that they multiplied only one-tenth as fast, or doubled only; once in 1,612.51 years, the population of the globe in 2,000,000 years would be 18,932,139,737,991, with 360 fig ures following! i Or, on the supposition that man origi nated from a single pair only 100,000 years ago, and that the population increased only one-tenth as fast as have the Jews, the present population of the globe should be 4,660,210,253,138,204,300 or 2,527,570,733 for every man, woman and child now alive I t ! “No guess that ever was made, or ever can be made, ; much in excess of 5,177 years, can possibly stand as the age of man. The evolutionist cannot sidestep this argument by a new guess. Q. E; D.” It would seeni to this reviewer that nothing more need be said, but Dr. Will iams goes on and says: 1 “If the human race is 2,000,000 years old, and must double its numbers 30.75 times to make the present population, it is plain that each period for doubling would be 65,040 years. At that rate, there would now be fewer than four Jews 1 If We suppose the race to have sprung from :one oair 100,000 years ago, it would take 3,252 years to double the population. At this rate, there would be five Jews.

“These figures prove the Bible story and scrap every guess of the great age and the brute origin of man. It will be observed that the above calculations point to the unity of the race in the days of Noah,, 5,177 years ago, rather than in the days of Adam 7,333 years ago, according to Hales’ chronology. If the race in creased at the Jewish rate, not over 16,384 perished by the Flood, fewer than by many a modern catastrophe. This most merciful providence of God started the race anew with a righteous head.” Dr. Williams does not stop with demon stration along a single line. He takes up in detail the stock arguments of the evo- lutionsts and pulverizes them under the inexorable laws of mathematical prob ability and the demonstrated laws of biology. In pages 117-121 he gives 25 problems for review, any one of which would be sufficient to humiliate the aver age zealous contender for the hypothesis ofi which “all scientists are agreed.” This book should have a tremendous circulation, and Dr. Williams makes wide dissemination possible by his generous distribution plan.
