Roca Group UK & Ireland has appointed Nicola Smith as its new Business Development Manager for Ireland. Nicola will be responsible for looking after existing Roca and LAUFEN customers in Munster and Leinster, ensuring they receive excellent service from initial contact to post-sale support. She will also concentrate on building relationships with new customers across her region. Glenn Campbell, Regional Manager – Ireland & Scotland, said, “Nicola has a strong customer-facing background in a bathroom sales environment, so she’s a great fit for this new role. NI EXECUTIVE SUPPORTS SHORT FILM EXPLORING GEOTHERMAL POTENTIAL
Geothermal energy’s
potential to provide heating, cooling and power, as part of Northern Ireland’s net zero and energy transition, is explored in a new short film. Launched by GeoEnergy NI, the project has been delivered by the Department for the Economy (DfE), as part of the Northern Ireland Executive’s Energy Strategy, with scientific support from the Geological Survey

of Northern Ireland (GSNI). The film, Unearthing the heat beneath our feet, documents the project investigating shallow and deep geothermal potential at the Stormont Estate, Belfast and College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, Greenmount Campus near Antrim. Despite having huge untapped potential, geothermal energy is currently underutilised in Northern Ireland compared with other renewable energy
sources. Presented by local broadcaster and geology enthusiast Paulo Ross, the film aims to increase awareness of the geothermal potential here and support the development of a geothermal industry, which could produce many high value jobs and skills across the region. Northern Regional College has hosted its inter-campus heats of SkillBuild NI 2025, naming three winners in the Plumbing category. First place went to Micheál Hughes and second to Ewan Hood, both from the Ballymena campus, with third place awarded to Newtownabbey campus student Daniel Nicholson. Overall, 45 apprentices and trainees showcased their talents at the annual inter-campus heats of SkillBuild NI 2025. Part of the UK’s largest multi- trade competition for young students and apprentices, SkillBuild NI is governed by CITB NI.

Competitions for joinery, carpentry, cabinet making, plumbing and electrical installation were hosted at the College’s Newtownabbey campus. These heats mark the first step for competitors aiming to qualify for the Northern Ireland regional heats at South Eastern Regional College in May, with the potential to reach the UK national finals later in the year. Each competitor received a participation certificate, while the top three in each
category were awarded Screwfix vouchers in recognition of their
