THE ISTOP® MEETS RISING EXPECTATIONS FOR RELIABLE, DURABLE ANTIFREEZE PROTECTION HEAD ON, EXPLAINS ALTECNIC COUNTRY MANAGER FOR ROI & NI CHRIS REILLY… Introducing the high-temperature anti-freeze valve for heat pumps

INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
Altecnic, the UK’s leading supplier in hydronic solutions and part of the Caleffi Group, is proud to announce the launch of its iStop® high-temperature antifreeze valve with swivel connection. The valve is engineered to deliver exceptional freeze protection for modern heat pump systems operating at temperatures up to 90°C. With heat pumps increasingly utilising low-GWP refrigerants such as R290, system temperatures are rising, as are expectations for reliable, durable antifreeze protection. The iStop® is purpose built to meet these challenges head-on, providing automatic frost protection with a high working temperature tolerance, while also introducing a clever swivel connection that simplifies installation and reduces the need for excess pipework. This swivel connection allows the valve to be installed directly to the heat pump unit, creating a more compact, tidy set-up. This results in fewer materials used and lower risk of leaks or thermal losses from “The valve is engineered to deliver exceptional freeze protection for modern heat pump systems operating at temperatures up to 90°C.”
extended pipe runs - all without sacrificing safety or system performance. KEY FEATURES: • High-temperature resistance: Safely handles circuit temperatures up to 90°C, ensuring compatibility with
iStop.
The iStop® must be installed vertically outdoors, with the
outlet facing downward, and sufficient clearance left below to prevent ice build-up from blocking the
discharge. For optimal protection, the valve should be installed on both the flow and return lines, ensuring no water is trapped in the system. Installers should also avoid positioning the valve near external heat sources or in insulated enclosures, as this may impair the valve’s ability to respond accurately to ambient conditions. As with all frost protection devices, the system must remain pressurised for the valve to operate correctly. As energy-efficient heat pumps become more widespread in both residential and commercial settings, the need for compact, dependable, and high- temperature-ready components is more important than ever. The iStop® antifreeze valve offers a future-proof solution that helps protect systems, reduce installation complexity and contribute to the long- term resilience of low-carbon heating technologies.
modern high-performance heat pumps. • Swivel connection for flexible fit: Allows close coupling to heat pumps, minimising external pipework and installation time. • Reliable frost protection:
Automatically drains circuit fluid when temperatures fall to an average of 3°C, preventing ice formation and equipment damage. • Robust construction: Made from high-grade brass and stainless-steel components, with durable EPDM seals. • Precision operation: Opens at 3°C and closes at 4°C with ±1°C accuracy, maintaining consistent system performance. • Easy installation: Swivel nut design
and threaded BS EN ISO 228-1 connections for quick and flexible set-up.
