2024 APEGA Annual Report

Trust & Relevance

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Our equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) work focused on the inclusion of women and Indigenous reconciliation within the professions.

Women in the workforce Over the past two years, a provincial Women’s Economic Recovery Challenge grant of $250,000 has helped advance our efforts by funding a full-time EDI co-ordinator as well as the production and promotion of four videos highlighting the barriers women face in the engineering and geoscience professions and profiling registrant experiences. • In 2024, we shared two new videos, Broken Rung and Career Sabotage, which diarized gendered exclusion from work culture and the stigma of parental leave. • The videos have had nearly 3.5 million impressions since 2023. • Watch all four videos at apega.ca . Indigenous inclusion A $40,000 grant received in 2024 through the Government of Alberta’s Ethnocultural Grant Program will be used to help increase the knowledge, awareness, and Indigenous cultural capacity of APEGA staff and registrants. • Over the course of two years, the grant will fund up to 10 different virtual education sessions—free for registrants and staff—that will be delivered by Indigenous speakers from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. • In November, APEGA partnered with presenters who delivered two sessions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada: Building Bridges Through Cultural Awareness , which had a combined attendance of nearly 300 registrants and staff members.
