Provincial recognition APEGA Registrar and CEO Jay Nagendran, P.Eng. , was appointed to the provincial Foreign Credential Advisory Committee, underlining APEGA’s expertise in bridging international qualifications with Canadian requirements and our support for internationally trained professionals. Title protection case resolved APEGA’s legal action concerning title protection of “engineer” as it relates to “software engineer” concluded. The court provided key clarifications for APEGA and registrants, including the clarification that, per an amendment to the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act , only the title “software engineer” is exempt from title protection. The practice of software engineering continues to be regulated by APEGA, as are all disciplines of engineering. Calgary water main practice review APEGA initiated a practice review following Calgary’s major water main break in July. This clarified our mandate to protect the public and ensure accountability and safety. This practice review is still in progress at the time of publication. Inspiring the next generation: Science Olympics APEGA’s annual Science Olympics saw enthusiastic participation. The events broke records, with 2,081 students competing in Edmonton and Calgary and at branches across Alberta.
