Our Volunteers
Volunteers are essential to APEGA. United by a desire to give back and a sense of responsibility to the professions, volunteers serve at every level of our organization, including as members of APEGA’s council, boards, and committees. They provide strategic guidance to APEGA and perform essential regulatory functions, such as reviewing and approving practice standards and evaluating applications for licensure. At events like the Science Olympics, volunteers promote engineering and geoscience careers to the next generation. Whether they are advising council, mentoring students, or serving with their local APEGA branch, our volunteers demonstrate their commitment to self-regulation, ethics, and professional development.

Increased cybersecurity awareness We continued to provide free cybersecurity training to our regulatory volunteers. In the constantly evolving landscape of digital security, we should all be prepared to face new cybersecurity threats. By offering this free training, we reinforced APEGA’s security measures and equipped our volunteers with skills and knowledge they can apply in their personal and professional lives.

I reluctantly accepted the role of outreach co-ordinator for our branch, but when I started planning the Science Night for the elementary schools, I became inspired by how this could touch their lives and create a love for engineering and future scientists. After seeing the reactions of parents and participants, I resolved to commit more time to volunteering and participating in APEGA functions to ensure we give back to the community we live in.” – Fort McMurray Branch Executive Committee volunteer
