Oleksandr Kurbakov (photo below), who appears on screens from Kyiv. The emotion in the conference room, like that of the minister, is palpable. He has drawn fea- tures as he and Marc Rochet consider what the recovery of Ukraine's civil aviation and aeronautics industry could be after the war. Bertrand Piccard's speech was impressive, as he explai- ned to an audience of airline executives and nearly 500 participants how he had flown around the world in a solar-powered plane with Solar Impulse (front double- page of the editorial), without a drop of fuel. From there to carrying passengers is another story, but his message is different: no aircraft manufacturer had trusted him for this project, because it was necessary to change para- digms and invent what could be invented, starting with totally new ideas. Bertrand Piccard has dedicated his life to demonstrating the opportunities that lie in sustai- nable development, to arousing interest in solutions

that protect the environment in a cost-effective manner. A pioneer of new ways of thinking that reconcile ecology and economics, he uses his achievements to motivate governments and industries to act through the Solar Impulse Foundation. He believes that the world will go nowhere if we try to protect the environment by threate- ning human comfort, mobility and economic develop- ment. A doctor by training, specialising in psychiatry, Bertrand Piccard believes that people do not change their habits easily and that solutions must take account of their reluctance to make sacrifices. Needless to say, Malta lived up to all our expectations? The welcome, as much as the sites chosen for this 13 th APG World Connect, the participants, everything contri- buted, as in every edition, even more, to leave the memory of a conference of an exemplary professiona- lism, and convivial! https://worldconnect.apg-ga.com
