Plenary Speakers Opha Pauline Dube
Dr Opha Pauline Dube is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Botswana (UB), holding a PhD from the University of Queensland. She is currently one of the 15 Independent Panel of Scientists drafting the UN Global Sustainable Development Report 2023 (GSDR/2023) and was the Vice Chair of the WMO Science Advisory Panel – 2020-2022. She serves in the Elsivier Climate Change Advisory Board while also Co-Editor-in-chief of the Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability Journal. Pauline has served in various authorship capacities in the IPCC WGII assessment process since the 3rd report and was a Coordinating Lead Author for the IPCC special report on global warming of 1.5 °C and a Review Editor for Chapter 5 Food, Fibre, and other Ecosystem Products, in the 6th WGII IPCC report. Previously she served in the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP) science committee (2008-2010) subsequently serving as Co-Vice Chair of IGBP (2010-2015) during which she initiated synthesis work on “Global Environmental Change and Least Developed Countries(LDCs)”, focusing on the Asia Pacific LDCs and Small Islands States. She also served in the Science Advisory Committee of the Climate Research for Development in Africa under UNECA and was the Deputy Chair of the Botswana Government National Climate Change Committee. Pauline has held Visiting Fellowship at the University of Oxford, UK and Griffith University, Australia.
