and leaves. It was used for the em­ balming of the dead. This, too, typi­ fies the death that the Lord Jesus Christ would suffer. God must have placed it in the hearts of the Eastern leaders to bring such unusual pres­ ents of their adoration. Keep in mind that they were representatives of a heathen country. In a sense we have in them the first-fruits of the Gen­ tiles. Christ came to the nation of Israel. He was the offspring of Abra­ ham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah and David. At the same time He was the Sav­ iour of the world. His death on the cross was the propitiation for the sins of all men. We are all hungry for the assurance of the forgiveness of sins. We can only find in Christ the satisfaction which our hearts need. Those who came by faith to acknowledge Christ as Saviour ex­ perience the joy and satisfaction which He alone can give in the promise of everlasting life.
