LOUISVILLE

annually on the first Saturday in May under the Twin Spires at historic Churchill Downs, located on Central Avenue in south Louisville. Equip Expo’s Welcome Reception this year, sponsored by Caterpillar, will be hosted at the track. The Thoroughbred racetrack is most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually but has also hosted the renowned Breeders’ Cup on nine occasions, most recently in 2018. The Kentucky Derby is the longest continually held sporting event in the United States and has survived two world wars, the Depression and pandemics, including COVID-19 in 2020, when it ran in September without the usual crowd of 150,000. Bourbon City is also the hometown of the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bats, with both a museum and fieldhouse associated with the piece of Americana history. On Louisville’s Main Street, it’s a whole new ball game at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory which unveiled a large-scale renovation to its Museum Gallery, the museum’s largest in its 15-plus years. Get ready to smell the wood and see the wood chips fly while learning all about the history of an American icon at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. Further down on Main Street, Louisville Slugger Field is home to the Louisville Bats professional baseball team, a Triple-A Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. This beautiful ballpark was built into a historic red brick train depot station in 2000 and is centrally located to the Urban Bourbon Trail, downtown convention center and city hotels. Boasting 11,000 square feet of indoor event space (500 seated capacity) and a stadium bowl with a seating capacity of nearly 12,000, this ballpark treats patrons to one-of-a- kind experiences, including premium seating with multi-level outfield event space in the center field.

“ Considering Louisville often punches above its weight by hosting prominent, high-profile large events like the Kentucky Derby, PGA Championship, NCAA tournaments, and The Women’s Cup, among others, we are very well versed with large group needs. Additionally, we have a myriad of hotels and venues able to accommodate any size group.” — Doug Bennett, Executive Vice President for Louisville Tourism
