With a permanent collection spanning 6,000 years and an ever-changing series of provocative temporary exhibitions, The Speed offers endless opportunities to explore ancient and contemporary art from diverse cultures. The 220,000-square-foot facility also features an outdoor art park and piazza, a café and a cinema. Thanks to Brown-Forman, admission is free on Sundays.

No. 3: Cherokee Park Take a deep a breath and a scenic walk through the Highlands in 409 acres designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Cherokee Park features a 2.4-mile loop with breathtaking views of rolling hills, forests and open meadows that capture Olmsted’s signature landscape architecture, giving city dwellers a restorative space. Playgrounds, benches and shelters offer plenty of opportunities to take a break and relax. Admission is free.

Get some fresh air during a stroll or bike ride on the Big Four Bridge. The bicycle and pedestrian bridge spans the Ohio River and connects Louisville to Jeffersonville, Ind. The two-mile, round-trip journey offers breathtaking views of the city, river and Waterfront Park. Be sure to take in the bridge’s light show that starts every evening at sunset. Or, sign up for Mulligan’s 5K and Fun Run, which steps off from the park on Wednesday morning.
