I was full-on crying—I’m talking about heaving, ugly, sob- bing, hyperventilating crying—I was twenty-six years old and I thought I’d peaked. I was sitting on the floor Indian style, rocking back and forth, looking out the window of my hotel roomdown onto the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California.
