The Strength
of Connection:
A Supportive Journey from Incarceration to Independence
R eentering society after incarceration can be a daunting experience. Individuals stepping back into the world often face overwhelming challenges, as ev- erything has changed and familiarity can feel lost. JustDane understands this struggle, and through its Circles of Support program, it creates a pathway for individuals to successfully navigate their new lives. Launched in 2003, Circles of Support is a commu- nity-driven initiative that connects 5-6 volunteers, known as Circle Members, with individuals recent- ly released from prison, referred to as Core Team Members. This unique collaboration not only pro- vides immediate assistance but also fosters endur- ing relationships that help bridge the gap between prison and home. It’s a lifeline for those who might otherwise fall back into old habits and detrimental lifestyles that can lead back to incarceration. The journey begins before the Core Team Member even steps foot outside prison walls. JustDane's in- reach volunteers reach out to individuals, working with them to assess their needs and develop a com- prehensive reentry plan tailored to their unique cir- cumstances. This proactive approach ensures that when the time comes for release, there’s already a supportive framework in place.
