JustDane

F ounded in 1971, JustDane, formerly known as the Madison-area Urban Ministry (MUM), has long been at the forefront of advocating for social justice and providing essential services to those affected by the criminal justice system. The rebranding in 2020 reflected a deep commitment to expanding its reach and impact within the community. As a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit agency, JustDane has dedicated itself to a comprehensive suite of direct service programs aimed at helping individuals and families navigate the challenges that arise after incarceration. Among its many initiatives, JustDane offers prison reentry programs that support men and women transitioning back into society after serving time. These programs are crucial as they equip indi- viduals with the resources and tools necessary to reintegrate successfully, reducing recidivism and fostering a sense of belonging. Additionally, JustDane recognizes the profound impact that incarcer- ation has on families, particularly children of incarcerated parents. The organization provides vital assistance to these children, ensuring they have access to support systems that can bridge the gap created by their parents' absence. Another innovative aspect of JustDane's mission is its community events designed to promote un- derstanding and empathy for those recently released from prison. These experiences aim to enlight- en the public about the struggles faced by individuals reintegrating into society, challenging stereo- types, and dismantling stigma. By sharing personal stories and experiences, JustDane seeks to create a dialogue that fosters stronger community connections and encourages supportive networks. At the heart of JustDane's work is a deep understanding of the societal disconnect many individ- uals face. By listening to the stories of those who walk through their doors, the organization gains CHANGE THROUGH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
