Client Synopsis
What did they do?
Why did they do it?
• GM is amid a massive transformation from a traditional automotive manufacturer to a technology platform provider. This must be achieved to support their electrification strategy, • GM can’t make this shift on the back of legacy, highly custom technology. This operational & technology transformation will only be achieved with the adoption of the cloud technically and, more importantly, a cloud mindset shift.
GM conducted an extensive two-year evaluation of SAP RISE. The following deliverables were critical for GM to obtain CEP & CFO approval of this transformation and investment in SAP: • Cloud Reference Architecture: A detailed future state reference architecture depicting their entire SAP estate globally moving to the cloud with SAP RISE • Technical Assessment: 250+ pages of the technical spec to support the Cloud Reference Architecture
• GM is seeking to migrate to a modern cloud ERP that that will enable the company to achieve a ”Clean Core” by reducing customizations, integrations and IT workload. • GM wants to provide automation and innovations capabilities to support the GM Finance Integrated Ecosystem strategy by reducing risk and complexity and driving standardization and consolidation across the OTD-S, R2R, and R2P landscapes.
• The current on-premise platform limits innovation capability to stay competitive with
competitors. Currently developers are producing low -code apps, increasing integrations, non- standard processes and customizations, which increases technical debt. This also limits GM to automate routine functional tasks and workflows with simple drag - and-drop functionalities and inability to leverage innovation (AI/ML).

• Executive Alignment: This occurred at multiple levels across GM, and on a regular cadence. Each interaction was well planned by the team to ensure that we re-validated our engagement, our mutual action plan, and steps to execute this transformation in each meeting. • A Deep Understanding of the Customer: GM has a complex, highly custom, 30+ year relationship with SAP and experience deploying our solutions. It was critical that we had a seasoned & experienced SAP team to develop the overall strategy and 4 Yr. Plan alongside the customer. This pursuit took nearly two years from start to finish. • Trusted Relationship: This is the most important of the three. We are fortunate a consistent set customer leadership team with the MP and IAE together at GM for 7 years. This consistency extends to our VAT as well. In short, we have earned the trust required to partner on this dramatic shift at GM.
