In our opinion, this may be the most consequential herd sire prospect ever raised at Niobrara Red Angus. He checks nearly every box and is phenotypically impeccable. He is sired by the proven, breed icon Ranch Hand, and a natural born son of one of the most credible Red Angus cows in the NIO herd. I truly believe, the sky is the limit with Backcountry. This is a bull that needs to see widespread use to help drive red hided cattle into an even greater market share.

Backcountry is the 5th natural calf of NIO Jolene 9263. She has calved in January every year, conceiving to her AI sire each time. With an MPPA of 105, the fertility and maternal power of 9263 is real, and after weaning Backcountry this past fall, she is now at the forefront of our Embryo Transfer program. The lead-off, highlight lot in our 2025 Red, Redefined Production Sale was a full sister to NIO Backcountry 5058, NIO Jolene 4073. With all 3 Indexes in the Top 5% of the Red Angus breed, in combination with stunning phenotype, she commanded a $50,000 valuation, selling half embryo interest to one of the most progressive breeders in the business, John Carter of Veto Valley Farms in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Predictability, security, and reliability are what we all desire. I have never been more confident in a young herd sire prospect.
