he arrived. Lo and behold, his horse was there-tied under a tree. Another time he was aroused about mid night, and looking out o f the window saw three men in the road in front o f the barn, evidently planning another robbery. He lifted up his heart to God and said, “Lord, there are three men and I am here alone; help and defend me.” In a few minutes the men went away without attempting any thing. Surely this was an encouragement to his faith,' and thus we see they are learning to trust God, and believe in His deliverance, , - Another, young man who accepted Christ in the'hospital said that before he believed he suffered awful remorse of conscience, but since accepting the Saviour he has en joyed peace and rest such as he never had beforehand cannot find words to express the joy he has. In making our rounds the past month' we met a young Mexican, gave him a tract and asked if he had ever heard the Gospel. “Oh, TY URING the past month we have visited E ' and preached the Word at fifteen or twenty different meeting places in these fields,. A few have been reached. One young man and his wife on the K. T. O. lease at Shale accepted the Lord and the change is wonderful.- Two women on, this same lease were converted two months ago. /Good interest is,manifest on one of the leases at Maricopa. We hold Bible studies there and are always, welcomed. We have a Sunday School at Bellridge, and also hold services in the dance hall of the Bellridge'Oil Company., A hearty wel come is given us at the Associated Pipe Line stations. At one camp thirty miles west o f Lost Hills, eight .people were won for the Lord. This place had a hard his
yes,” he /replied, “ for . five years I have attended the different missions in , Los Angeles.” . “Well, are you saved?”- “ No, I don’t know that I can be saved.” “Do you want to know it?” “Yes.” Then we read to him John S :24 and re-read it and asked him to read it. “ Now,” we said, “you have heard the Gospel. Do you be lieve God/ sent His Son to die for your sins? What does the Lord promise?” He said, “Eternal life.” “Then will you not take it as a present possession?” . He replied, “Yes.” T o make sure he under stood, we asked him, “ Do you believe you are saved ndw?’’iw “ Oh, yes; I ‘can truly say I am saved now ; I know it because God says 50 and I believe it. I never saw it so plaik before.” H e was very happy in the knowledge o f his Saviour. This. JS" a typical case, not only among the Mexicans,: but among many so-called professed Christians who are hoping but do not have an assurance of salvation as a present possession.' tory. A saloon there was responsible for many crimes. We watched the place and when the keeper applied for a renewal of his license we appeared before the Board of. Supervisors and told them o f the harm it did and they refused to renew the. license. The Associated Pipe Line people also sent a letter o f protest, so the saloon had to go. This place did an immense amount of harm, and a number o f wives told me 1 their hus bands had wasted a good deal there, not to speak ^pf getting'- intoxicated. W e have a good Sunday School here and a preach ing about every six weeks. The Superin tendent iof the Pipe Line sent me a letter o f thanks, saying that he was very pleased with the work. We usually have thirty or, more out every time we go there.
