Injured in a Car Accident? We Can Help.

Relieve Your Injuries Sustained in a Car Accident with Physiotherapy

Whiplash – a common car accident injury Whiplash can occur with many different accidents, but it is often seen in motor vehicle accidents. The weight of the head and spine is whipped back and forth with the fast movement of an accident or fall. The muscles in the neck don’t have time to react, which then results in strains and tears of the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and tissues. Due to the initial shock and trauma following the accident, whiplash typically feels worse 1-2 days after the injury, as inflammation sets in and tissues become swollen. This can lead to headaches, pain with movement, and even a numbness or tingling sensation into the upper extremities. There are many different phases or treatments to help you after suffering whiplash. Our physiotherapists will work with your physician on the appropriate treatment to help you recover and relieve your pain.

If you have recently been in a car accident, you know how frightening it can be. Automobile accidents can result in injuries ranging from mild cuts and abrasions to broken bones and severe whiplash. This, undoubtedly, results in pain and discomfort following the accident. In many cases, your primary physician may prescribe opioids as a way to ease your pain during your recovery process. However, this can pose some dangerous risks. Opioids are highly addictive and contain undesirable side effects. In fact, just within the year of 2016, opioid overdoses claimed the lives of 116 people each day. Fortunately, physiotherapy is a much safer and more effective pain-management solution. Physiotherapy can help in your recovery from an automobile accident by reducing pain and inflammation, in addition to restoring your range of motion. Contact ProActive Physiotherapy today.

It is very important to continue through with the recommended treatment plan as advised by your physiotherapist, in order to achieve a full recovery and prevent future problems from occurring. Contact us today to discover how we can help you relieve your whiplash pain quickly and make a full recovery. Find relief today If you are experiencing pain from a car accident, don’t turn to opioids or surgery before giving physiotherapy a try. Physiotherapy is an alternative form of treatment that will help in both easing your pain and helping you heal. Physiotherapy goes beyond pain relief and works to improve the overall function of your body by getting to the root of the problem. Unlike opioids, physiotherapy aims to provide long-term relief, as opposed to short-term. When sustaining an injury from a car accident, especially one resulting in whiplash, your ability to stand, walk, run, work, and move altogether may be hindered. These areas of function will be addressed at your initial appointment and throughout the entirety of your treatment plan. The main goal of any physiotherapy program is to relieve pain and get you back to your optimum levels of physical function, which your physiotherapist will work hard to help you achieve. Treatment plans will incorporate a series of treatments based on the nature of your condition, aimed at providing relief and recovery. This may include any combination of targeted exercises and stretches, manual therapy, ice and heat therapies, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation. Your treatment plan will also address strength, flexibility, and overall mobility, in order to get you back to your normal physical abilities. If you’ve been injured in a car accident, ProActive Physiotherapy is here for you. Our advanced holistic methods will help you recover the right way – without harmful risks. We’ll be your support system during every step of your treatment plan. Contact us today.

Motor vehicle accidents can cause numerous injuries and conditions to the body, including whiplash. Whiplash is a traumatic injury to the structures of the cervical spine (the seven uppermost vertebrae). It involves muscles and ligaments and is caused by extremes in range of motion in the absence of severe bony injury such as fracture, dislocation or disc herniation. Sports injuries, physical abuse and other trauma can cause whiplash, but most often it results form rear-end motor vehicle accidents. Symptoms can begin anywhere from a few hours to one day after an accident. Whiplash associated disorders (WAD) can be classified into five grades. Grade 1 symptoms include neck pain, stiffness or tenderness. Grade 2 symptoms include neck pain with decreased range of motion and point tenderness. Grades 3 and 4 are the most serious and require further follow-up with a physician prior to a patient starting a physical therapy program. For these types of WAD, conservative care often is prescribed, with recommendations for “act as usual” care (no active treatment) or physiotherapy. WAD can be pricey: 84.5 percent of the costs are incurred during the acute episode and can result in an absence from work of more than two months. For patients, pain reduction is the most common goal, in which case active physical therapy should be considered. For Grade 2 patients, active physiotherapy should be recommended as the best option for achieving the best outcomes as far as therapy and cost.
