32 Unlike traditional AP courses that focus on subject-specific content, AP Capstone emphasizes the development of critical thinking, research, collaboration, and communication skills. These courses are both yearlong and will serve as a graduation requirement for English 3 and English 4.

AP Capstone Courses in Detail

AP Seminar

●​ Course Description : Students investigate real-world topics from multiple perspectives, gathering and analyzing information from various sources to develop credible and valid evidence-based arguments. ●​ Assessment : Students are evaluated through a team project and presentation, an individual research-based essay and presentation, and a written exam.

AP Research

●​ Course Description : Students design, plan, and conduct a yearlong research-based investigation on a topic of their choice, documenting their process with a portfolio. ●​ Assessment : Students are evaluated on an academic paper of 4,000-5,000 words and a presentation with an oral defense. AP Capstone Awards Students can earn one of two awards upon completion of the program: 1. ​ AP Capstone Diploma : Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing. 2. ​ AP Seminar and Research Certificate : Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.
