Fine wines and liquors for Christmas
There are very few connoisseurs of the good life who don’t occasionally suc- cumb to the guilty pleasures of delicious nectars from exotic places or renowned houses. Gourmet wines and liquors are great gift ideas which can transport you to faraway places while staying comfortably at home. Cognac is the gourmet liquor par excellence. It’s a fine brandy produced in a lim- ited area around the village of Cognac and which meets all production standards and regulations. Even the most demanding of palates will love the irreproachable quality of the old reserves, the XO’s, fine cognacs with such well known appel- lations as Réserve or Napoleon. In the case of Extra Old, the youngest brandy is aged at least six years. Still on the subject of spirits, an old cane rum, also known as “rhum agricole”,
is another greatly appreciated gift. This rum, which comes from Martinique, is in great demand as it’s the only place in the world where this appellation is a “controlled appellation of origin” (appellation d’origine controlee - AOC). Continuing our trip around the world, Japanese sake is a must. To sat- isfy the tastes of demanding enthusiasts, the very old brand of Gekkeikan would be an excellent choice. Other good brands of sake, such as Mu Sui Sake, which means “water of dreams”, are all made with highly polished rice.
Finally, what’s a celebration without a few bubbles? That’s why Champagne is always at the top of the list of luxury wine products. Production methods and the special climatic conditions of the Champagne area of France give this wine its unique flavour.
