ANNEX 4 - PRE-USE INSPECTION LIST, EXAMPLE
This example of a pre-use inspection list covers a chain hoist and three crane types
PRE-START, OPERATIONAL CHECK AND POST CHECKS
Chain Hoist
HMF 265T
HIAB SWP 2 Crane
Palfinger PCWM 3300
Before and after use of the crane/Hoist always carry out the following inspection/checks:

Check that environmental conditions are within the limits of the crane
Check that the crane emergency stop functions are undamaged and working correctly

Crane structure:
• Checks the steel structure of the crane for signs of damage

Check the hook for:
Damage/deformation
•
The cotter pin is in place, where applicable
•
• The spring loaded Safety latch is functioning correctly
Shaft nut and safety pin are correctly secured
•

Boom inspection:
• Locking pins for manual extensions, including safety clips
• Shaft and shaft locking between lift cylinder and first boom, the column and first boom and the lift cylinder and column
Visually check bolted connections for loose nuts

Hydraulic system:
• Check if the seal on the dump valve is still in place ( HIAB SWP 2 Only )
• Check all hydraulic pipes, couplings, hoses, cylinders and valves for: Leakage, damage and deformation
