I T WAS A MOST INTERESTING DAY. Paul didn’t get up early enough so we could begin family devotions on time. After breakfast Mother carried dishes to the sink so Mark could get some of them washed be fore l e a v i n g for school. She dropped a knife and Mark ex claimed: “Mother, you are so un-co- ordinated this morning!” Mother isn’t sure which tickled her the more—the scolding, or Mark’s use of that big word. At the dinner table, Mother com mented: “ The days for having the entire family around the table at the same time are gone.” Neither Paul nor Sharon was home from their after-school work. It is a strange feeling to sit at a table with only six people! “ Aren’t you glad not to have so many kids home? You should be glad they’re all getting married.” “ I can’t say I am particularly eager to have you kids leave home, Mark.” “ I can’t say I am particularly eager to leave you — at least not yet,” replied the ten-year-old. Althea had a phone call from a boy in her sophomore class. She said: “ No, thank you,” and came to Moth er, obviously agitated. “Did you have these kinds of troubles when you were my age? (She’s 14.) Probably not, because you didn’t have telephones in those days.” Now it was Mother’s turn to be “ shook.” “ No telephones? Honey, your mother operated a P.B.X.! And yes, I had ‘troubles’ a lot like yours.” “Well, anyway, I’m so thankful I can talk to you. You seem to under stand me.” Is it any wonder Mother went back to work with renewed vigor? How wonderful to experience the joy of the Lord! There’s no joy like it. “ . . . the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10b). Are you weak and washed up in body and spirit? Then pray with David: “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation” (Psa. 51:12). God will answer your prayer. THE KINO'S BUSINESS
