newsroo m @eap.on.ca The Ontario Provincial Police is receiving many reports of financial scams target- ing seniors and other vulnerable people across the province. In this sca m , individuals clai m ing to be investigators fro m one of Canada’s char- tered banks convince victi m s to withdraw funds for use as evidence to assist with a bogus theft investigation involving bank personnel. After the m one y is withdrawn and handed to the phone y bank inspector, the victi m is told to go ho m e and wait for a call confir m ing the m one y has been re- deposited in their account. Unfortunatel y , that call never co m es. In several recent cas- es, seniors have co m plied and were subse- quentl y defrauded of thousands of dollars. Guard against beco m ing a victi m before providing m one y or credit card infor m a- tion. Check with another fa m il y m e m ber or trusted friend to verif y the infor m ation.
