Six-years for attempted murder
newsroom@eap.on.ca L’ORIGNAL – A 23-year-old Hawkesbury man has been sen- tenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder. Andrew Kennedy had been ar- rested March 12 by Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police officers investigating a break-in at a Por-
telance Street residence where a man had climbed onto the second- storey balcony and broke into the living room. The man then attacked and strangled a female teenager who was sleeping on the living room couch. A female resident came to the rescue of the teenager and the accused fled the scene.
The victim suffered minor injur- ies in the attack. The sentence was handed down by Justice Jean G. Legault. He also imposed a 30-day jail term on Mylène Rouleau-Kenne- dy, 26, of L’Orignal, who had been charged with attempting to ob- struct justice and breach of a com- munication order. one you know has been a vic- tim of fraud, contact your local police service, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888- 495-8501, or Cri meStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) and re- port the crime.

In this scam, individuals claiming to be investigators from one of Canada’s char- tered banks convince victims to withdraw funds for use as evidence to assist with a bogus theft investigation involving bank personnel. After the money is withdrawn and handed to the phoney bank inspector, the victim is told to go home and wait for a call confirming the money has been re- deposited in their account. Unfortunately, that call never comes. In several recent cas- es, seniors have complied and were subse- quently defrauded of thousands of dollars. Guard against becoming a victim before providing money or credit card informa- tion. Check with another family member or trusted friend to verify the information. Remember, neither your financial institu- tion nor a police investigator will ever ask you to withdraw money from your account

New charges in St-Isidore murder case Two people charged in connection with a murder in St-Isidore face new charges. September 13, Ontario Provincial Police charged an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl from North Stormont for breach of undertaking. The name of the 18-year-old cannot be released as it may identify the young person who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Both had earlier been charged with conspiracy to commit an in- dictable offence. They are among the six persons who have been charged in the death of 24-year-old Joey Faubert, whose body was found June 20 in the yard of the St-Isidore elementary school.
