Quarterly Question

How does the North Los Angeles County Regional Center determine my self-determination budget? At the North Los Angeles County Regional Center, the first item that is utilized is the 12-month expenditure report. This will provide the information on how much money was spent on your services and supports in the last 12 months. In your person-centered plan, you may have figured out that you have other needs that are unmet or that you have not fully utilized services due to extenuating circumstances. These are considered unmet needs. You will review your unmet needs with your IPP planning team to determine if the budget would need to be increased to meet those needs. Only traditional Regional Center services are included in the self- determination budget. If you have not received any services from the North Los Angeles County Regional Center in the last 12 months, the IPP planning team will determine the traditional services that are a need and how much money is typically spent to meet those kinds of needs. This would be the basis for your budget. There are agencies and organizations that may have the responsibility to pay for certain parts of your care and services. These are generic resources. If you have exhausted all generic resources and you still need services and supports, the Regional Center can consider funding. This rule still exists in the self-determination program.
