Overview & Expectations
As you prepare for your first clinical rotation, we want to congratulate you on this next step in your education, and provide you with some important information to ensure a successful and fulfilling experience. Clinical Rotations Overview Clinical rotations are an essential component of your education at Sumner College. Completing the required clinical hours is crucial for your progression in the program. Each clinical site has been selected to provide you with a diverse and enriching learning experience. This packet includes information about the sites scheduled for registered nursing clinical rotations, including addresses and current job openings. You can click on the addresses to access online Google Maps for easy navigation. Professional Conduct Remember, as students of Sumner College, you are guests at each facility. Some sites are full-time residences for individuals, making it important to approach each rotation with respect and professionalism. Your behavior reflects not only on you but also on Sumner College. Embrace this opportunity to learn and grow, and always strive to make a positive impression. “Oregon State Hospital (OSH) provides patient-centered, psychiatric treatment for adults from throughout the state who need hospital-level care. The hospital's primary goal is to help people recover from their illness and return to the community. Services include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as community outreach and peer support. With two campuses, one in Salem and one in Junction City, Oregon State Hospital serves more than 1,500 people per year and employs more than 2,000 staff. Oregon State Hospital operates under the direction of the Oregon Health Authority. The superintendent is Dolly Matteucci. The Salem campus has the capacity to serve up to 558 people at a time, and the Junction Campus can serve up to 145. Hospital-level care includes: 24-hour, on-site nursing, psychiatric and other credentialed professional staff, treatment planning, pharmacy, laboratory, food and nutritional services, vocational and educational services. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Organizations.”

“I was working as a medical assistant wishing I was a nurse because I knew I could do more!”
Renee chose Sumner because it was the best option for her and her family. She is currently working for Providence St. Vincent Medical Center on the Acute Care Cardiology Unit. She works with patients who have received a new heart transplant, valve repairs, among other things. Renee is part of an amazing team on the night shift!

Erin’s Success Story...
Erin appreciated Sumner’s class sizes along with the hybrid learning environment that allowed her to continue working through the program. She graduated in June 2023 and started working for Providence St. Vincent’s on the Oncology floor in August. Erin loves the culture of teamwork and patient advocacy that her floor embraces. The nurses are helpful and supportive to her and her fellow new grad RNs on the unit. Erin is so happy she decided to go to nursing school!
