Our profound appreciation
We are deeply grateful to you , our cherished community of supporters. As we navigate this time of historic transition and remarkable growth, we appreciate the generosity and support that has brought us this far. We recognize that your continued partnership is essential to achieving the Treehouse vision for expansion. We also want to acknowledge our visionary founder, Judy Cockerton. Her passion, dedication, and hard work have shaped Treehouse into the vital organization it is today. The community tributes to Judy on our website demonstrate and honor her incredible legacy, which continues to inspire us all. These pages are in honor of you—our vital partners—who generously share your time, talents, and resources. Your support fuels the Treehouse drive for innovation and social change, both in our local communities and across the nation. Together, we are reimagining foster care, one neighborhood at a time. There is growing societal interest in our innovative solution that addresses the critical needs in foster care, social isolation, and the housing crisis across generations. The Treehouse team is building on this momentum and we look forward to sharing more with you soon on how and where our innovation is having an impact. As the need for our work is more urgent than ever, the Treehouse Foundation Board of Directors has set ambitious goals. Our strategic planning for 2025–2030 is underway to ensure Treehouse is ready to meet the moment. The design and financing for Treehouse at Olmsted Village in Mattapan (Boston) are taking shape in collaboration with our new housing and program partner, 2Life Communities. We are also planning to expand to Worcester with our Easthampton housing partner, Beacon Communities. We are thrilled to have two such highly respected and mission-aligned partners. We are also excited to support a strategic planning process led by our Champions—social change- makers with lived experience in foster care. Their strong leadership is driving the national movement to transform our overwhelmed foster care system and place lived experience leadership at the center of the conversation. With your support, we’re ready for change. Your belief in us drives our mission. Consider this an invitation to visit us at Treehouse and experience the vibrancy of our community. Thank you for being with us on this journey!
With deepest gratitude,
Sarah Carlan, MSW

Thank you, Judy! In July, we said farewell to legendary founder Judy Cockerton. Judy leaves behind a remarkable legacy of growth and accomplishment. Thanks to her vision, leadership, and unwavering dedication, the future looks very bright for the Treehouse Foundation. We have been receiving notes of tribute to Judy from far and wide since July. We thought these words by Hal Grotevant, longtime colleague and Treehouse friend, captured the essense of Judy’s impact and of what makes her so special. Judy Cockerton has revolutionized the way we think about the prospects [for] children who have experienced foster care. [...] She has shown us the benefit of surrounding children with loving parents and supportive elders in a caring community that is centered on their well-being. It works. [...] She has been honored repeatedly for her work on behalf of social justice—but the honors don’t just sit on a shelf. They inspire colleagues, decision-makers, and the next generation of leaders to aim high—to dream about what COULD be. [...] She has truly been a role model for me and my colleagues in the adoption field—and for that, I am forever grateful. — Hal Grotevant, Rudd Family Foundation Chair in Psychology Emeritus, UMass Amherst
