The big winner in the annual SNC golf tournament this year is next year’s treeplanting assistance program for property owners in the South Nation River watershed region. Almost 80 golfers and others participating in this year’s Friends of SNC Golf Tournament, August 11, at the Casselview Golf & Country Club in Casselman raised almost $4000. The money will go towards the South Nation Conservation Authority’s Free Tree Pickup program next spring. The program distributes 10,000 seedlings for planting to residents in the 16 munici- palities that are part of the South Nation River watershed. “Fundraising efforts help support com- munity programs that benefit and enrich our local environment,” stated Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux, the current SNC board chairman. “We’re grateful of the support from our municipal partners, businesses, industry, and donors.” Since 1990, SNC has planted more than 4 million trees across its watershed to enhance forest cover thanks to commu- nity and municipal partnerships and annual fundraising. Donations to SNC can be made online at www.nation.on.ca/donate or by contacting the SNC office in Finch at 1-877-984-2948 or info@nation.on.ca.
