On Thursday evening December 10, shortly after 8:30 pm, Hawkesbury OPP was conducting a RIDE initiative on McGill Street at Mill Entrance in Hawkes- bury, when a car stopped at the checkpoint. Conver- sation with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had operated his motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs. Consequently, the driver, 45-year-old Jean Bourgeois of Vankleek Hill, was arrested and charged consequently. The vehicle was seized for seven days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days. Bourgeois was later released and scheduled to appear in L’Orignal court on December 23. VCI raises money for refugees Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) Interact club has raised more than $1,440 for their Syrian Refugees Fundraising event, which included Henna Art, Art Silent Auction, and a Book Sale. The Hawkesbury Rotary Club donated $500 for the cause. The money will now be sent to UNI- CEF Canada where funds should be matched. “Thank you for all of your support from the VCI Interact Club,” said Ilze Hilliere, VCI teacher. “Be the change you wish to see in the world, indeed!” – Diane Hunter The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a theft of copper wire that occurred sometime between December 9 and 13 at a property on Main Street West in Vankleek Hill. Someone trespassed on the property and stole 150 feet of hydro copper wire still on a spool. The matter is under investigation. Copper wire stolen in Vankleek Hill RIDE catches another impaired driver in Champlain
