GREGG CHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca GROWING SUPPORT FOR VKH GARLIC FESTIVAL Ontario’s regional garlic festivals in Carp and Perth, and he was a strong supporter of the idea last year when someone suggested the club sponsor a garlic festival.
Garlic lovers gather in Vankleek Hill this summer to celebrate their favourite sea- soning, at the second annual Vankleek Hill Garlic Festival. “Basically, we’ll just have a great day with garlic,” said Stuart Wood, Vankleek Hill Lions Club president and garlic aficionado. The Lions Club is responsible for the latest addition to the local summer festival season schedule. Response to last year’s inaugural event was so good, that the club had very “strong” sense of obligation to cook up a second serving of the festival fun. Wood has been an organic garlic enthu- siast for the past 10 years, growing enough garlic bulbs for his own use and to give away to friends. He’s also attended a couple of
«People are really getting into knowing more about garlic, and also cooking with organic garlic,» he said. «Plus people just want to have really good quality garlic, and it gives people a chance to interact with growers.» Besides the garlic growers and their booths, this year’s festival at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre will feature Paul and .BSZ-PV1PTQJTJM jHBSMJDHVSVTPG&BTUFSO Ontario,» who will offer advice about garlic to festivalgoers, based on their 30-year experience in the garlic trade. «He does lots of research for disease resistance and quality in various species of garlic,» said Wood.

Ma région à mon image is a contest organized for students of Séminaire du Sacré-Cœur and Lachute’s polyvalente Lavigne. The goal is to have students take photos of the area. The photos were exposed for three weeks in April at the Lachute library and the Maison de la culture. Winners for the Séminaire du Sacré-Cœur are Anne-Marie Gagnon (second from left) and Marilou Lavigne (second from right). They are surrounded by Séminaire professor Pascale Brousseau and Éric Poulin from Place aux jeunes d’Argenteuil.
Le concours Ma région à mon image en était cette année à sa 10e édition et vise à faire aimer aux jeunes la région, afin qu’ils puissent s’y attacher et y vivre. « Les photos ont été exposées en avril, pendant trois semaines, à la Maison de la culture à la bibliothèque de Lachute », a expliqué Éric Poulin, agent de migration chez Place aux jeunes Desjardins d’Argenteuil.
Le Club Richelieu du Long-Sault a récemment remis un chèque de 1000 $ au comité de soccer de Grenville.
