Introduction to Autonomous Trucking and Platooning Technology C1913 1 Day | Classroom Seminar OVERVIEW
Vehicle automation and intelligent transportation systems will be the cornerstone smart cities. Most of the focus has been on unmanned passenger operation and not on highways. However, highways are relatively simpler to handle from an engineering standpoint. Most truck maneuvering is straightforward (maintaining a slower highway lane with limited lane changes) and how automating buses (with fixed routes) or construction equipment (confided areas) make sense from a safety and economics point- of-view. This leads to the “heavy metal first” hypothesis, where automation in the heavy-duty sector and industrial machines may happen sooner. This course is intended to cover truck automation with special focus on platooning, technology developments, field trials, opportunities, and challenges facing the wide scale deployment of such systems.
