We can see that the world will be reproved as the Holy Spirit is allowed to control each life. The Holy Spirit must speak today to the heart of each individual revealing to him God’s perfect Mil. May we have listening hearts that the Holy Spirit might not just com vict thè world but convict us of our need to truly serve the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:26; Rom. 6:6). Sold again, Satan!”—John MacNeil in "The Spirit-filled Life.” For Those Who Have Topics I. THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS OF SIN. Man cannot realize his sinfulness unless the Holy Spirit speaks to him. When an individual is indifferent to Christ and His claims, it takes the Holy Spirit’s working to show him the love and value of Christ’s death on Calvary. When a man deliberately turns aside from God’s beautiful “Love Gift,” can anything demon strate his great sinfulness more? “This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19). An opportunity to have all sins for given and the pardon and peace of God—and yet man says No! Truly this is sin. But only the Holy Spirit can reveal, convict, and convince the person that unbelief is sin (HCb. 3:12). II. THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. l^en laughed and scoffed at the Lord Jesus and nailed Him to the cross. They 'paid, “He saved others; himself he cannot save” (Mk. 15:31). The Holy Spirit convicts the world of Christ’s righteousness which is mani fested by His return to the Father. It is the Holy Spirit alone—operating by means of the Word of God—who can show us that the finished 'work of Christ on Calvary is accepted Of GjOd and that in Christ we are for ever pardoned and made righteous (Phil. 1:11). HI. THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS OF JUDGMENT. It would appear^ valueless to be convicted of sin and made righteous in Christ if we were always to lose to Satan in practical everyday living. We could not survive the struggle if .the Holy Spirit did not remind us con stantly that Christ met Satan at the cross and that Satan lost forever, for his ultimate defeat, began at Cal vary. Satan can tempt but he cannot overcome the child of God, who, con fident in God’s Word, is resting in Christ’s victory and who meets the enemy of souls as a defeated foe through the power o f the Holy Spirit (John 12:31; Eph. 2:2; Heb. 2:14).
