26. Later Fruitage “ I watch over my word to perform vit” (Jer. 1:12, R.V.). " Many times as you give the Word you may see no results, because the soil of the heart is only being pre pared for later fruitage. God’s Word never has returned void or •empty. . . . As the Incarnate Word was pre cious to God the Father who watched over Him while here on earth, and anointed Him for His work, so also the written Word of God is dear and precious to Him and He watches over it.—L. L. Legters. 27. Visible Grace “Grow in grace, and in the knowl edge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18). There must be likeness to Christ if we are going to justify our claim to be called Christians. We read that when Barnabas reached Antioch he “saw the grace of Gocf and was glad.” It is a very simple expression. We do not always think of the grace of God as something visible. But Barnabas saw the grace of God, and he saw this in Antioch, in the place where they were first called Christians. —W. H. Aldis. 28. Altogether Lovely “O God, thou art my God;, early •will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee” (Psa. 63:1). Learn much of the Lord Jesus. For every look at yourself, take ten lopks at Christ. He is altogether lovely. , . . Let your soul be filled with a heart- ravishing sense of the sweetness and excellency of Christ and all that is in Him. Let the Holy Spirit fill every chamber of your heart; then there will be no room for folly, or the world, or Satan, or the flesh. ,, —Robert Murray McCheyne. 29. Trust “I will trust,' and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song” (Isa. 12:2). Why cannot I Contented lie In His quiet arms Beneath His sky Unmoved by earth’s annoy? |—C. G. S. Complete Refinement “He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of^Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6). You are deep in the red-hot bosom of the refiner’s fire. One talent has been given you— time —and that endowment sparse! Prize this gift so as to economize it; look after it so as not to squander it;- employ it so judiciously that it will never be regretted; invest it so profitably that as a faithful steward you rpay welcome the advent of the Lord, ready to give an account. —Selected. 24. Thy Promise—My Strength “ I will never leave thee, nor for sake thee” (Heb. 13:5). I take Thy promise, Lord, in all its length, And depth and fullness, as my daily strength; Into life’s future fearless I may gaze, For, Jesus, Thou art with me “ all the days.” Days may be coming fraught with loss or change, New scenes surround my life, and faces strange; I thank Thee that no day can ever break When Thou, my Lord, wilt leave me or forsake.—Selected. 25. Abiding Joy “In thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psa. 16:11). Man was not made for sorrow. It is, we believe, a divine ministrant of blessing, and in many cases précédés gladness; but the transient character of sorrow in the purpose of God is marked by the glorious promise that He will wipe all tears away. The heart of man was made for peace, and joy, and love; and through all the foolish blundering of popular pleasure-seeking, it is after these men seek.—G. Campbell Morgan.
