could have healed the daughter before Jairus ever received this message. But Jesus delayed. He in dicated, I'm going to talk to this woman. I am going to correct her. I am going to take my time. Why? Because I can move Jairus to that level of faith which is beyond just healing for someone else. Notice Jairus' predicament. Your daughter is dead, Jairus. What are you going to do now? Jairus may have thought, Lord, I wish you hadn't talked to that old woman, or we would have made it on time. He could have been terribly angry and bitter, and say, God, You didn't do what I wanted You to do. What is the matter with You, any way? Jesus spoke to him before that bitterness could rise up and scorch his life. Jesus gave him a message which perhaps you will need to hear today or throughout this week. "Do not be afraid any longer. Only believe, and she shall be made well." Jairus must move now, to that point of faith of healing for his sick daughter to the place where he must trust the word of Jesus for resurrection power. Is he going to rise to the occasion? Is he going to be able to venture out and say, All right, Lord, on your word, we'll go back there. Before, it was Jesus' presence that was going with him, and he felt, Jesus is going with me — we might make it. Now, he has the word of Jesus in the face of a new obstacle. He must exercise tremendous faith. In verse 51, they come to the house. Jesus did not allow anyone to enter with Him except Peter, John, and James, and the girl's father and mother. Now they were all lamenting for her, but he said, "Stop weeping, for she has not Page 53

has made you well." Not the fringe, not touching His clothes, not grasp ing some object or sacred piece of cloth — but her FAITH. Actually, it meant that her faith had SAVED her. Now Jesus has corrected her, but He wants to lead her to another point, and He says, "Co in peace." Can you imagine what it meant to this woman to go in peace, who had not had peace in twelve years? She had gone from doctor to doc tor, and paid bills until everything was gone. Jesus, as it were, pro nounces a benediction upon her— Co and discover the peace that I am giving you. Why? Because you have exercised faith — you are healed. You have been saved — now go and discover my blessings. Perhaps this woman, although in poverty and with a lot to live down, had the peace of Cod which passes understanding. Throughout her life, I am sure she remembered, "Daughter, your faith has saved you — go in peace." JESUS WAS SENSITIVE TO A DETERMINED FAITH THAT NEEDED CORREC TION. The story continues. Jesus still has some work to do with Jairus. "While he was still speaking, some one came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, 'Your daughter has died. Do not trouble the teacher anymore.'" Other peo ple were in this story besides the Desperate Father and the Deter mined Woman. THE DEROGATORY SCORNERS There were those that had belit tling attitudes toward Jesus. Don't bother the teacher. She's dead, it's all over. He can't do anything. What did this do for Jairus? Jesus
