Business Tax Account – PAYE for employers

E arly in 2019 the CIPP’s policy team had been receiving anecdotal evidence from members, employers and tax professionals telling us of their discontent with the accuracy and reliability of HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC or ‘the department’) Business Tax Account (BTA) – or ‘dashboard’, as it is also referred to. To try and understand the reasons for the dissatisfaction with the dashboard we ran a poll on our website during May 2019. Of the 300 responses to that poll, 29% told us that, in their experience, the information on the dashboard was never accurate. ...29% told us that, in their experience, the information on the

Members were asked to provide, ahead of the meeting, examples in which the BTA was providing incorrect information. This meeting took place in November 2019. Most readers will be familiar with these screens, which start on the BTA homepage (see Image), but also encompass:

● upcoming payments ● overdue payments ● annual statement for each tax year ● monthly statement for each tax month ● payments history for each tax year. HMRC were keen that employers should understand that this service shows information pulled from its main accounting ledger, so they see where HMRC has allocated payments or credits, such as the employment allowance, to
