Bathrooms Section Summary

SDA Bathrooms Considerations Checklist: • Refer to NDIS SDA Design Standard. • Bathroom layout is square or rectangular in shape.

For Social Housing Dwellings, bathrooms shall be provided as detailed in Table 02, section B2.01: Dwellings above. If certain dwelling layouts would benefit from minor variations to this requirement, the alternatives shall be presented Housing Choices for approval. Bathrooms need to be functional spaces with appropriate material selection and waterproof detailing. Bathrooms Considerations Checklist: • Walls within all powder rooms, toilets and bathrooms must be reinforced to support the future installation of grabrails. Refer to item 6 of LHA Guidelines for location of wall reinforcement sheeting. • Wall finishes are to be full height and for the perimeter of the bathroom unless agreed otherwise with Housing Choices. • Monolithic wall finishes or large format tiles are preferred. Where vinyl is installed all floor to wall junctions must be coved. Provide colour matched plastic edge strip or discrete brushed aluminium angles to all external tiled corners. Alternative materials may be presented to Housing Choices for consideration. • Layouts to consider placement of toilet roll holder, towel rails, soap holder, robe hooks. • Requirement for all fixtures and fittings to be hard wearing, easily maintained and replacement parts locally sourced. Plastic fixtures and fittings are not acceptable – refer to specification schedule in Part F of this document. • Ensure a sufficient number of towel rails to number of occupants are provided (Nom. 450mm length per occupant as a guide). Minimum 900mm towel rail space is to be provided. Hooks are not desirable but may be provided where space is limited.

• Provide a source of natural light in bathroom where feasible. • Thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) to be provided for safe water temperature control. TMV to be located in a position which supports ease of maintenance.
