Kitchen joinery Section Summary

• Bench adjustability between 750mm & 900mm AFFL preferrable if budget permits. • Consider drawers for under bench storage in lieu of cupboards due to ease of access.

Kitchen joinery must be functional and provide adequate storage for the number of occupants. Consideration to the durability, life cycle, maintenance and cleaning needs to prioritised in the material selection and detailing of kitchens. Kitchen Joinery Considerations Checklist: Provide at a minimum: • One bank of four drawers, approximately 600mm wide, with a cutlery tray to the top drawer. • One Pot drawer min 300 deep. • Full height pantry shelved or proprietary slide out. Min 450 wide. • Cupboards under benches generally. Where the tenant cohort is predominantly elderly residents, consider drawers for under bench storage in lieu of cupboards due to ease of access. • Overhead cupboards to walls in the kitchen area. • Overhead cupboard over refrigerator space. Ensure that a standard height refrigerator is not impeded by this shelf. • Provide a single shelf within all under bench cupboardss and two adjustable shelves (where space permits) to all overhead cupboards. • Chrome plated or white cover plates where plumbing pipework and gas pipework passes through the carcass. • The Contractor must locate GPOs for white goods so that they are accessible with the white goods installed. • Refer to section B7.03 Appliances and Part F: FF&E schedule . SDA Kitchen Joinery Considerations Checklist: • Refer to NDIS SDA Design Standard. • Kitchen to include pull-out pantry. • Kitchen joinery needs to be designed to be flexible and to ensure joinery can be cost-effectively modified in the future to meet the needs of residents with a disability.
