“The Dog,” a 12-minute film featuring Kate Walsh, explores the mental health and high suicide rates within the veterinary profession, centered on a vet named Claire dealing with pressures at a 24-hour clinic. The film aims to raise awareness for mental wellbeing in the vet industry, offering it as an educational resource to spark discussions and encourage empathy towards veterinarians. SWVS plans to host the first major industry screening, featuring a panel with experts from the vet and mental health fields, to discuss the film’s themes and promote understanding of the link between veterinary work and mental health challenges. Written and directed by Danielle Baynes, the film is sponsored by veterinary staffing company IndeVets.
