and decrease the quality of life for the patient. Recognizing early signs of osteoarthritis combined with a multi-modal treatment approach that includes a comprehensive rehabilitation plan can lead to improved outcomes for your patient. This session will address current concepts regarding cannabinoid-rich RACE HOURS: 1 CE HOURS: 1 Sponsor FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM | EXHIBIT HALL F Getting the Most From Your Therapy Laser John Godbold, DVM The evolution of laser therapy to mainstream patient care in veterinary medicine is a fascinating journey that started with the obscure observation that clipped hair grew back more quickly in mice irradiated with laser light. Now, 50 years later, we use laser therapy every day to reduce pain, modulate inflammation, and accelerate healing. Attendees will see how we got from “hair to here” and how laser therapy significantly improves patient care today. RACE HOURS: 1 CE HOURS: 1 Sponsor FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM | EXHIBIT HALL E Looking Under the Hood: How Metabolic Dysfunction Impairs Health in Aging Dogs Brennen McKenzie, MA, MSc, VMD We are all familiar with the negative health consequences of aging: disability, disease, and

death. However, even though we know these all increase with age, we tend to think of each clinical problem in senior dogs as having a distinct cause. As a result, we often play a reactive game of whack-a-mole with aging-associated disease; diagnosing and treating each separately after it appears. Fortunately, a growing body of scientific evidence is revealing more about the common mechanisms underlying aging, giving us new targets for preventive interventions to delay the decline in health and function. This session looks at metabolic dysfunction, a key collection of biological processes that drive the increase in frailty and disease and the decline in quality of life seen in aging. We explore the role of dysfunctional adipose tissue, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia in canine aging and consider strategies for preserving normal metabolic function to extend health lifespan. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 2:00 PM - 2:50 PM | ROOM 202 AB Cannabinoid-Rich Hemp: Quality, pK, and Dosing Considerations Robert Menardi, DVM This session will address current concepts regarding cannabinoid-rich hemp products. With the rise in hemp product use, and advances in current knowledge of pharmacokinetics in pets, it is apparent that there are significant differences between species, making bioavailability and dosing of paramount importance in determining therapeutic value. Today’s hemp products exhibit wide variations in quality and composition, all with implications for clinical effectiveness and practicality. Practitioners should know about quality control and follow the AAVSB guidelines for selecting products. A full understanding of a certificate of analysis when choosing a product, regardless of the plant based product they are providing their clients, is paramount to good medicine. RACE HOURS: 1 CE HOURS: 1 Sponsor THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 3:00 PM - 3:50 PM | ROOM 202 AB Rehabilitation and Osteoarthritis in Canines – A Multimodal Approach to Patient Care Amber Ihrke , DVM, DACVSMR This lecture will discuss osteoarthritis as the most common cause of chronic pain in dogs, affecting a significant population of adult canines. This progressive and degenerative condition mostly affects diarthrodial joints, and as the degenerative process continues, this can lead to joint failure. The consequences of this failure can limit activity, decrease performance, cause pain and discomfort,
