Provincial call The VCI boys’ rink are in Pembroke this week for the provincials, starting February 14, and while curling is considered “a gent- leman’s sport”, the quartet will set aside any signs of friendliness towards their oppo- nents, once they step onto the ice and start throwing stones and sweeping clean paths to the button for their rocks. “We know our strengths as a team,” said Todd Zihlmann. “We have a lot of teamwork, and we use our mistakes to improve our game.” The last two times at the provincials, the VCI rink won one game and lost the other two, keeping them out of the playoffs round. The first goal this year is to make the playoffs and then see what happens. “The main thing we have learned is to communicate better as a team,” said Todd Zihlmann. “We talk more as a team,” added Parisien, “and we’ll make a lot more shots.”
This week in Pembroke will seem very familiar to most of the players on the VCI boys’ curling rink, because it will be their third time running at the provincial championships. “It’s pretty amazing that we’ve made it this far for the third time in a row,” said Todd Zihlmann, the VCI rink’s second. “And for this season too.” “Surprised that we made it,” said Jacob Kilmann, lead on the rink. “I think we’re pretty lucky,” said Frédéric Parisien, the rink skip. “I think we had an easier time this season.” “It’s definitely an honour to be back for a third year in a row,” said Nate James, the rink’s third. “I’m really looking forward to it.” Except for Jacob Zihlmann, who is the rookie member of the rink, playing with the other three for his first season, the VCI boys curling rink has played together for several years under the guidance of their coach and trainer, Daniel Tremblay. Les Hawks de Hawkesbury ont perdu 5-1 contre les Sénateurs Junior d’Ottawa, mais ont gagné 5-4 contre les Braves de Brockville la semaine dernière. Les Sénateurs Junior ont dominé le match du vendredi 8 février à Hawkesbury. Ottawa a pris l’avance 2-0 dans les 10 premières minutes du match, avec des buts d’Elie Bou- lerice et Taylor Egan. Matthew Titus a ensuite marqué pour les Hawks, mais Noah Rowe a marqué un troisième but pour Ottawa, dans la dernière minute de la période. Les deux équipes ont livré une chaude lutte durant la deuxième période, mais aucune n’a réussi à trouver le fond du filet. David Toppa et Boulerice ont marqué en troisième période pour les Sénateurs Junior, menant la victoire à 5-1 pour Ottawa. Malgré leur défaite, les Hawks ont effec- tué plusieurs tirs au but. Le gardien de but pour Ottawa, Francis Boisvert, a été nommé la première étoile du match, ayant arrêté 46 des 47 tirs sur son filet. Boulerice a été nommé la deuxième étoile pour ses deux buts et Titus, des Hawks, a récolté la troisième étoile, ayant marqué le seul but de son équipe. Cette perte contre les Sénateurs Junior place Hawkesbury en deuxième place, Ottawa prenant la première place de la division. Le soir suivant, le samedi 9 février, les Hawks, encore à domicile, ont remporté la victoire contre les Braves de Brockville. Brockville a pris l’avance 2-0 rapidement en première période avec des buts de Nicholas Hawkins et Chace McCardle. Samuel Hatto a diminué l’avance en marquant pour les Hawks à 16 :09 de la première. Les Hawks ont ensuite pris feu en début de deuxième période, marquant deux buts

The Hawks won one and lost one last week. The Ottawa Junior Senators beat the Hawks 5-1, taking over the first place spot in the division. Hawkesbury is now in second with 72 points, while Ottawa has 73. The Hawks then beat the Brockville Braves 5-4 in Hawkesbury last Saturday. —archives dans les deux premières minutes – Luke Grainger et Patrick Johnston en sont les responsables. Garrett McArthur a ensuite égalisé le match avec son but pour les Braves. Les Hawks ont fini la deuxième période avec l’avance de 4-3, à la suite du but de Yanic Crete. Les Braves de Brockville n’abandonnaient pas. Fred Allaire a égalisé le match 4-4, encore une fois, avec son but à 2 :30 de la troisième période. Crete, avec son deuxième de la soirée, a apporté la victoire au Hawks avec son but à 11 :16 de la troisième. Les Hawks jouent encore le mardi 12 février contre les Nats de Rockland, le ven- dredi 15 février contre les Grads de Navan et le dimanche 17 février contre les 73’s de Kemptville.
