LUMPIA

Theresa Ford | Events and Conference Manager | Frisco Embassy Suites

Growing up in the Philippines, food was at the heart of every celebration, whether it was a birthday, a fiesta, or Christmas (which, for us, begins in September). Among the dishes we always shared was lumpia, crispy, flavorful spring rolls that capture the essence of our culture. It’s a simple, affordable dish that brings people together, bite after bite, reminding us of home, family, and joyful gatherings.

Ingredients

1 lb Ground Pork (can sub or mix with ground beef or chicken)

1 Small Onion, finely chopped 2 Medium Carrots, finely grated

3-4 Cloves of Garlic, minced 2 Green Onions, finely sliced 2 Eggs 2 tbsp Soy Sauce Salt and Pepper to taste .5 each of Red and Green Bell Peppers, finely diced 2 cups Oil for drying 2 dz Lumpia Wrapper (spring roll wrapper) 2 tbsp Flour + 2 tbsp Water for sealing wrappers

Instructions

1.Mix all ingredients in a large bowl except for wrappers and flour/water. Combine thoroughly. 2.Assemble the lumpia: Lay a wrapper flat on a clean surface (diamond position). Spoon about 1 tablespoon of filling along the bottom third of the wrapper. Roll tightly, folding in the sides as you go. Seal the edge with water or egg wash. Repeat until all filling is used. 3.Cook the lumpia: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat (about 350°F / 175°C). Fry lumpia in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 4–5 minutes). Drain on paper towels.
