"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." ■ Of first importance in all Christian enterprise is the dis semination and proclamation of God’s Word. To this great task the Pocket Testament League is wholly dedicated. ■ You can contribute substantially to the world-wide min istry, and assure yourself of a dependable life-time income, through two sound plans: PTL INVESTMENT TRUST PTL ANNUITIES Write Mr. Alfred A. B Y A L T H E A S . M I L L E R D ear !” “Yes Mother. I’m right here. “ Please come and clean up your bedroom. It’s a disgrace.” “ O Mother, I’m 19 and can do as I please. I am my own boss.” “Aw c’mon, Althea. If you’re gonna play ‘Mother and children,’ do it right. Besides, you are only 14, not 19. And another thing, you know our real mother says nobody is ever really his own boss. Nobody can ever do all that he really wants to do.” This was quite a mouthful of phi losophy for the family’s 12 year old. Suddenly even Ardyth seemed over whelmed by her statement. “ I betcha I know one time you can do what you please.” Althea sounded a bit mysterious. “How?” A t this point Ardyth was viewing the adult world through jaundiced eyes. “ By being careful of what you want, that’s how. Then you can have what you want.” Mother’s two youngest daughters’ conversation indicated they k n e w more than they understood about being “ bossed” and “ doing what I want to do.” But at least their think ing this far into the subject evidenced a measure of absorption of this par ticular philosophy of life taught by their parents. Admittedly this is not a popular teaching. To inexperienced adoles cents who ache in every sinew to break off restraints, such a standard is incredible, incomprehensible. One big question which occupies a great part of their attention is: “When will I be my own boss?” More specifical ly, “How soon can I tell my parents, —not ask them?” Youthful attitudes such as this often confuse parents. As a result they react differently to their challenging and trying offspring. Maybe we Christian parents should set ourselves to a biblical course of action when the children begin to “ try their wings.” Lay the foundation taught in Romans 14:7: “ For none of us liveth to himself and no man dieth to himself . . . whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
