8. 1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson (HOF RC) - PSA FR 1.5
9. 1938 Goudey #274 Joe DiMaggio (HOF) - PSA GOOD+ 2.5
His rookie card is generally considered to be his Canadian World Wide Gum issue from 1936 but the 1938 Goudey “Heads Up” set contains what is essentially Joe DiMaggio’s U.S. card debut. The variety offered here is from the reissued second series of the set and features the desirable small cartoons that were added at that time. Holdered as a PSA 2.5, the card exhibits a small bit of paper loss in the upper right just below the corner that drives the grade but doesn’t have a whole lot of negatives otherwise. DiMaggio’s tinted image is bright and the card has aged well, with the typical toning associated with Goudey’s cardboard stock present. The reverse has some light foxing in two or three areas but nothing that is too displeasing or distracting. Exceptional card for the grade, from an original owner collection, submitted by Love of the Game to PSA. MINIMUM BID: $750
One of two cards considered to be Jackie Robinson’s rookie card (the other is his 1949 Bowman of course), and certainly the most popular of the two, his appearance in Leaf’s quirky 1949 set was downright historic. Despite the flip, which picks up a 1948 copyright on some cards, the set was clearly issued in 1949. This PSA 1.5 holders a card that has seen what appears to be staining from clear tape at the cor- ners, with centering to the right side. Despite some surface soiling and overall wear, the central image still looks good and has excellent registration, which is never a given with the Leaf cards. he reverse has fared better and is centered well, with bold text and looks quite clean. This is a key and noteworthy card from the postwar era in any condition. MINIMUM BID: $2,000
