Love of the Game Set Builder Auction - Winter, 2023

52. 1909-11 T206 Joe McGinnity (HOF) - SGC EX-NM 6

53. 1909-11 T206 John McGraw (HOF - No Cap) - PSA EX 5

They called Joe McGinnity “Iron Man’ long before Tony Stark was a gleam in Stan Lee’s eye (actually long before Stan Lee was a gleam in his mother’s eye), after he twirled and won both games of a trio of doubleheaders in August 1903. He won 246 major league games in 10 years, earning election to the Hall of Fame in 1946. After that he pitched in the minors until the age of 54, living up to his sobriquet in grand fashion. This SGC 6 example captures him showing the form that won the games, with a vivid red background and snowy white borders front and center. This T206 is sporting a Piedmont 350 Factory 42 reverse. MINIMUM BID: $250

Fine looking T206 “no cap” portrait of Giants legend John McGraw. Nicely centered, this card shows a couple of minute bits of product residue near the borders. The Piedmont 350 Factory 25 reverse has come through in similar style. A higher-grade example of one of the most famous managers of all time! MINIMUM BID: $300

54. 1909-11 T206 Cycle 460 John McGraw (HOF - w/Cap) - PSA VG-EX 4

John McGraw’s T206 Portrait “with hat” also captures him in a “sweater” pose, a distinct looking run of N.Y. Giants subjects within the series. Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, the front exhibits some spots of residue showing and some light staining here and there with excellent centering. The reverse has a desirable Cycle 460 Subjects brand, also with some light staining, typical of the issue. MINIMUM BID: $500
