2. 1951 Bowman #305 Willie Mays (HOF RC) - SGC VG/EX+ 4.5 After the Mickey Mantle card, Willie Mays is the biggest key to the 1951 Bowman set and is seeing a hobby ascendancy that was long overdue. His rookie effort, which is a high number and shown here in an SGC 4.5 holder, remains a massively popular card and this col- orful and nicely registered example captures an almost impossibly young Mays taking some Spring Training BP.
pleasing Bowman rough cuts along the long borders. The bottom left corner is touched the most, with the other three holding on nicely. Some surface scuffing can be seen across the middle about a third of the way down. The reverse is very nice, free of any wax stains and centered just a smidge to the left. Mays is iconic, as is his rookie card and this is an excellent opportunity to grab one of the best cards of the early 1950’s. MINIMUM BID: $3,000
