Personal Statement Guidance

If you apply for our MRes/PhD Finance & Economics programme you are not required to apply with a research proposal.

However, an enhanced personal statement is required. This should include the following information: • Explain why you are interested in the MRes/PhD Finance & Economics programme, why you want to undertake postgraduate study at this point in your academic career and, why at WBS. • Outline how you are qualified to apply for the MRes/PhD Finance & Economics programme. There is no need to repeat information such as UG/PGT qualifications, as copies of your UG and PGT transcripts should be submitted with your application. This element may include evidence of your prior work experience or evidence of research in the subject area. Please include your personal and academic skills, achievements and how they relate to this programme.

• Outline how the MRes/PhD Finance & Economics programme will benefit your future academic career plans.

• Please indicate the research areas that you are most interested in at this stage of your career and explain why.

• Please indicate up to two members of faculty you would be interested in working with during the MRes/PhD Finance & Economics programme.

• Your personal statement should not exceed two pages in length.
